The HRC Committee on International Affairs discussed international mobility and research collaborations at its meeting on 21 May 2026

The Committee on International Affairs of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference held its meeting on May 21, 2026, at the Budapest Innovation and Training Center of Széchenyi István University. The meeting focused on international mobility opportunities in Hungarian higher education, research collaborations, and the expansion of international partnerships.

Committee members reviewed the experiences of the Pannonia Scholarship Program to date. In his presentation, Richárd Bodrogi, Director General of the Tempus Public Foundation, highlighted the student-friendly aspects of the program, including automatic credit recognition, short-term training opportunities, and group mobility options, as well as the Excellence Program, which supports study and research mobility at the world’s leading universities.

The meeting’s agenda also included updates on international research grants. Dr. Borbála Schenk, Head of the International Cooperation Department at the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (Nemzeti Kutatási, Fejlesztési és Innovációs Hivatal - NKFIH), provided information on the NKFIH’s international activities and the grant advisory services available to universities.

During the online part of the programme, participants were briefed on new opportunities for international collaboration. Neo Tan, director of the Chinese office of the Global Cross Border Education Institute, outlined opportunities for strengthening ties with Chinese higher education institutions. Regarding Latin American partnerships, the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference’s prospective partners also introduced themselves: Luisa Fernanda Villamizar on behalf of ASCUN (Asociación Colombiana de Universidades – Colombian Association of Universities), and Professor Luis Cristovão Porto on behalf of FAPERJ (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – Rio de Janeiro State Research Support Foundation), Professor Luis Cristovão Porto, scientific advisor, and Ana Beatriz Ramadas da Cruz, international advisor, presented the opportunities inherent in the collaboration.
