TeachProgress - the first PLA in Istanbul
On 9-10 April 2025, the first PLA of the TeachProgress project took place in Istanbul in two schools: on the first day at Sainte Pulchérie French High-school and on the second day at Terakki Foundation School. In the midst of the professional events of the project, the participants had the opportunity to get to know the schools.
The project, led by the EFEE (European Federation of Education Employers) and ECNAIS (European Council of National Associations of Independent Schools), aims to tackle the shortage of teachers in Europe. Research preceding the project identified two factors as the root causes of teacher dissatisfaction and low motivation to work: a decline in the attractiveness and recognition of the teaching profession and an inadequate career structure.
These factors are associated with other negative consequences, such as teacher absenteeism and poor performance, high teacher turnover and reduced interest in the profession, which ultimately affect students' learning outcomes and the overall quality of education.
The project aims to explore how education employers can best create a supportive environment for teachers.
