Successful workshop held in Helsinki by project in partnership with the Hungarian Rectors' Conference
On April 2-3, 2025, the EFEE (European Federation of Education Employers) project HigherED4Industry held its first workshop at Aalto University in Helsinki, of which project the Hungarian Rectors' Conference is a partner. The project's lead expert is Professor Gyula Vastag, who is assisting in mapping how professionals from the corporate sector with industrial experience can transition into university teaching roles—examining the legal frameworks and challenges across different European countries. Participants from nine countries had the opportunity to learn from the experiences of international experts during the event. The Helsinki workshop also provided a platform for several Hungarian professionals to present. Dr. Tamás Kozsik, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics at ELTE, and Balázs Karakas, a representative of BOSCH, shared their thoughts and experiences through their presentations and lively discussions with the attendees.
The main goals of the project include promoting collaboration between academia and industry and enabling hybrid career paths for professionals who wish to contribute their expertise to higher education.
Through research, mutual learning activities, workshops, and the identification of best practices, the HigherED4Industry project aims to develop guidance and policy recommendations for higher education institutions. These will focus on overcoming the barriers experienced professionals face when entering academic teaching and research careers, helping them embark on a successful academic career.
