Hungarian Students at the ConSIMium Simulation Event in Brussels

Spending two days stepping into the shoes of national decision-makers and negotiating with 160 young Europeans on current issues of the European Union—this was ConSIMium 2025, a simulation game organized by the Council of the European Union.

On February 20, 2025, student delegations from the 27 EU member states gathered in Brussels to participate in the simulation event. Each national team consisted of six students who engaged in negotiations at four different levels, strictly following the decision-making mechanisms of the European Council and the Council of the European Union. The goal was to provide participants with an authentic and realistic experience of decision-making processes, consensus-building, and political negotiations.

The simulation took place in the very same negotiation rooms where ministers, ambassadors, and EU heads of state and government usually meet. The scenario was based on real European legislation, requiring the teams to represent and advocate for their country's official position. Each participant had a designated role—head of state or government, minister, ambassador, national expert, or journalist—making the negotiations a multifaceted and dynamic process.

The Hungarian delegation, participating in the ConSIMium event for the third time, delivered an outstanding performance, effectively representing Hungary’s stance during the negotiations. The team members thoroughly prepared for their roles, ensuring they could engage effectively in debates and decision-making.

This year's thematic focus was on defense policy and critical raw materials, sparking intense discussions and pushing delegates to develop policy proposals that balanced European security policy and economic autonomy. During the two-day event, Hungarian students collaborated with their European peers, honing their diplomatic, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Hungarian student participants:
•    Corvinus University of Budapest – Tóth Csongor Murád (MA student in International Relations)
•    Budapest University of Economics and Business – Kiss Bíborka (BA student in International Business Economics)
•    Budapest Metropolitan University – Hullán Luca Mirtill (MSc student in International Economy and Business)
•    University of Public Service – Barba Réka (BSc student in International Security and Defense Policy)
•    University of Szeged – Deme Laura Anna (undivided law studies)
•    Széchenyi István University – Rácz Sándor (BA student in International Relations)

The Hungarian delegation returned home with valuable experiences and new connections, gaining deeper insights into the world of European politics.

ConSIMium 2025 once again provided an excellent platform for young people to face real political challenges and prepare for their future roles as responsible decision-makers.
