Hungarian Rectors’ Conference Discusses Expanding Higher Education Cooperation with Vietnam
On 29 July 2026, the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC) welcomed a delegation from Vietnam at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). The delegation included representatives of the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), along with leaders of several Vietnamese universities and higher education institutions. The primary objective of the visit was to explore opportunities for cooperation between Hungarian and Vietnamese higher education institutions and to facilitate the establishment of new institutional partnerships.
During the meeting, the HRC presented an overview of the Hungarian higher education system, the activities of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, and the framework for international higher education cooperation in Hungary. Participants were introduced to Hungarian scholarship schemes, including the Stipendium Hungaricum and the Pannónia Scholarship Programme, as well as the international achievements of Hungarian higher education and the existing institutional partnerships with Vietnam.
The meeting was attended on the Hungarian side by several university leaders and representatives responsible for international affairs, including the host, Prof. Dr. Charaf Hassan, Rector of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, as well as delegates from Semmelweis University, Gábor Dénes University, Dunaújváros University, and the University of Sopron. The Vietnamese delegation comprised leaders of universities specializing in engineering, industry, technology, commerce, and finance.
The professional discussions provided an opportunity for the participating Hungarian and Vietnamese institutions to identify and explore potential areas for future cooperation, with particular emphasis on student and staff mobility, inter-institutional partnerships, and joint educational and research initiatives.
