
Hungarian-Chinese Higher Education Cooperation Gains New Momentum
On 22-23 September 2025, the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC) welcomed the delegation of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and the Central Eastern Europe Countries Higher Education Institutions Consortium (CCHEIC) in Budapest. The two-day program aimed to strengthen Hungarian-Chinese higher education cooperation and explore new opportunities for partnership.
The official opening ceremony took place on Monday evening, 22 September, at the Salon of Semmelweis University. Welcome speeches were delivered by Dr. Balázs Hankó, Minister of Culture and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Béla Merkely, President of the HRC and Rector of Semmelweis University, H.E. Gong Tao, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Hungary, and Ms. Fu Bo, Deputy Secretary-General of CEAIE. The common message of the speeches emphasized cooperation built on mutual trust and respect, which contributes to further strengthening educational and scientific ties between Hungary and China in the long term.
On 23 September, the professional programs continued at the Ludovika University of Public Service. The morning Hungary-China Rectors’ Dialogue was opened by Prof. Dr. Béla Merkely, who presented the activities and mission of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and highlighted existing good practices and successful collaborations between Hungarian universities and their Chinese partners. Subsequent presentations focused on opportunities for student and faculty mobility, the potential of joint research initiatives, and the development of bilateral innovation and industrial partnerships. The forum also included the signing of a new agreement between the HRC and CEAIE, laying the foundation for future joint initiatives.
In the afternoon, the 10th Meeting of the China-CEEC Higher Education Institutions Consortium (CCHEIC) addressed the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. Panel discussions explored the future of cooperation in engineering sciences and technological networks, joint talent cultivation, as well as deepening linguistic and cultural collaboration.
The meetings reflected the commitment of Hungarian higher education to international dialogue and the development of strategic partnerships, offering significant opportunities for both sides in the long run.
